Qué es el Páramo?

I'm Camilo Duque, I'm 37 years old, and just 6 years ago, I was sitting in an office happily working as a marketing director for a large company in Colombia. I discovered my passion for traveling a bit late, but as soon as I did, life took me to live this passion to the fullest. Now, I'm a travel storyteller on social media and a marketing consultant for some brands.

Environmental Conservation (Conservación del medio ambiente)

Zalva wants your help in creating a short animation film that answers the question "What Is Páramo?" We are not looking for the perfect answer, we are looking for what you think the word stands for in your imagination. Is it a creature to you? Or a feature filmmaker to you? Is it a place you find? Is it a state of mind? We want you to color outside the box, and give us your best creative responses to the question. It can be fact, fiction, or just a whole lot of fun.

After the Animation Frames contributions phase closes, we will pick the five features based on the leaderboard's top five spots, which are entirely based on viewer likes. Make sure your friends love your submission and support you with likes.

The Brands and Impact partner involved (Zalva, AbinBev, 100+ Accelerator, Henoscene, and Mi Paramo) will pick five submissions based on composition, concept, creativity, and content. The Maestro will also have the chance to pick his top five favorites based on composition, concept, creativity, and content.

Each contributor can only submit one frame to this design challenge. Be sure to make your stand out, and ensure you submit before the countdown ends. Do not wait until the last minute.

The brands will work with industry leaders to create a compelling, uniquely collaborative short animation film that integrates these fifteen features. This draft will be made available for public feedback.

Once feedback polls are in, the animation will be updated and shared on Henoscene as part of the second contribution phase of this challenge. The brands, Maestro, Impact Partner, and Henoscene, will all be looking for the best musical composition to become the original soundtrack for the animation. We want a wonderful score that will bring alive the story being told. Then the finished animation, the individual frames and the song that was chosen to be the score of the short animated film will each be minted online, as downloadable files for non-commercial use, to help raise money to protect an endangered Andean ecosystem and to support the many creators who enabled the realization of this unique effort. Additionally, the individual who contributed the most beloved animation frame will have the opportunity to travel to meet Páramo in person, in Colombia. Who knows, maybe that fortunate creative person is you?

The páramos are crucial for water regulation. They are under threat in Colombia due to human activities such as livestock farming and agriculture. Colombia contains 50% of the páramos ecosystem. However, this water-rich ecosystem, which supplies 70% of the Colombian population, faces threats from agricultural expansion and climate change. In response to growing threats to these highland wetlands, the miPáramo program was created in 2018, which establishes voluntary agreements with rural families aimed at conserving and restoring the páramos and promoting the development of sustainable practices to achieve a balance between economic growth and ecosystem protection. The initiative also aims to reduce the vulnerability of communities to water stress and risks associated with climate change. Additionally, Bavaria introduced Agua Zalva Water in 2019, with the commitment to protect one square meter of Andean high forest for every bottle sold, thus contributing to the protection of the water resource in Colombia. It is possible to protect the páramo thanks to the actions of the peasant families who live along the buffer zones in the high Andean forest, therefore, by impacting 50,000 m2 we are creating conditions so that these ecosystems are preserved.

Isolation is only established in areas where a threat to degradation of natural cover is identified, due to livestock or due to expansion of the agricultural frontier. The isolation is carried out using recycled and recyclable plastic poles, located with a mind towards efficiency; generating maximum protection with the lowest level of intervention. Natural areas that are not identified as threatened areas will not be isolated; however, they remain under the conservation commitment of the property owner.

Conservation via isolation

Actions aimed at balancing the voluntary conservation agreement, through compensation aimed at improving the living conditions of the community, through actions such as:

- Support for economically sustainable production.

- Training and certification in Good Agricultural Practices - BPA.

- Innovation strategies and green businesses that allow promoting knowledge and practices in the community.

- Identification, strengthening and consolidation of direct commercial channels to establish new preferential markets for agricultural products with certified origin.

Sustainable production

- Ecological Restoration (ER): To start or accelerate restoration processes of a degraded, damaged or destroyed area in relation to its function, structure and composition.

- Rehabilitation (REH): To repair productivity and/or ecosystem services in relation to functional or structural attributes.

- Recovery or reclamation (REC): To return the usefulness of the ecosystem for the provision of environmental services different from those of the original ecosystem, integrating it ecologically and in terms of landscape to its surroundings.

Restoration

The miPáramo project creates partnerships with local farmers and smallholders living in the buffer zone of this sensitive ecosystem. In exchange for financial support, farmers sign voluntary conservation agreements (VCAs) that commit them to the preservation and restoration of the forest. These VCAs include the data of the property and the owner, and describe the agreed upon actions and the person responsible for carrying them out, the inputs provided to the project and the valuation of the investment, as well as the contribution made by the owner of the property for the investment (valuation of community labor), the commitment by the community of the setting up (maximum 4 weeks), the timeline for re-evaluation of the VCA (5 years) and the commitment on the part of the project to follow-up on the investment.

Through this campaign we will raise awareness of the importance of the páramos, unique and fundamental ecosystems for the lives of millions of people in Latin America. By doing so, people who know the paramos will learn about the wonderful species that this ecosystem hosts and its amazing functioning that maintains the water cycle in its connectivity with the Amazon rainfore

Le Mondeur is an ethical shoe company dedicated to advancing causes that go beyond fashion, and now they're asking you to join their campaign to "Take a Stand for Africa's Big 5." To take a stand, we're asking you to help us support the critical wildlife conservation work of the Big Life Foundation through your artistic creations. 

 Le Mondeur is seeking designs that capture the spirit of the iconic Big Five animals, where each animal can only be visualized in their designated media format, i.e. the lion (generative AI), rhinoceros (illustration), elephant (graffiti or typography), buffalo (painting), and leopard (photography.) Anyone can submit, so long as they are over 14 years of age, if you are younger you are welcome to have your parents submit on your behalf.

Le Mondeur will select one from each media format and fabricate one style by collaging all five works. At the same time, the Maestro (artistic curator) will get to fabricate a second style with as many submissions as needed to reframe the term "Big 5" from being associated with the trophy hunting community to being prioritized through a conservation lens. The Maestro for this campaign is Asher Jay, as this is the first campaign on the application she founded, Henoscene, and the cause is close to Jay's heart.

The submissions chosen by Le Mondeur and the Maestro will then be collaged into two different sneaker styles. The styles will then be made available with two design variants per style for public upvotes. The two variants with the most votes will then be minted and manufactured. Minted shoes will not only contribute to Big Life Foundation's need for ranger uniforms but also give the creatives whose designs made it to the final stage of production the opportunity to earn from all digital sales, as per the "split" stated on the campaign page. 

Please note that the split below refers to the eNFTs, not the physical shoe.

Big life rangers, since 2011 have patrolled over 5,000,000+ kilometres, arrested more than 5,000 suspects and confiscated over 6,000 tools and weapons in pursuit of protecting African wildlife. As you can imagine, this comes at some cost to the ranger's uniforms, which are essential in keeping these staggering efforts up. This project aims to Equip 381 rangers with a new uniform, providing them with the support and tools to continue to protect Africa's wildlife.

The Ranger's credibility and authority are compromised as a result. Their Morale and motivation are further diminished by this as well.

Each user has one submission within this time period and must pick which animal they want to design for from the Big Five: Lion, Rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, or buffalo.

The animal you have chosen can only be submitted in its designated media format. Here are the formats: (I) Lion: AI Generative Art (ii) Leopard: Photography (iii) Elephant: typography/graffiti or font art (Iv) Rhino: illustrations (v) Buffalo: Painting. 

Contributions Phase

Le Mondeur, Big Life Foundation and the Maestro (Asher Jay) will review the contributions across all five categories to decide which submissions best fit the featured criteria set by the campaign.The featured contributions will be announced on February 22nd 2024. 


Features selection

Le Mondeur and the Maestro must create two distinct and different shoe layouts each in this period. Resulting in four separate shoe designs that could incorporate completely different contributions and produce unique designs on each of them that you could be part of!!

Design layout

In this voting phase, four potential shoe designs will be released. This will include two from Le Mondeur and Two from the Maestro (Asher Jay). However, only one design from each will actually be turned into a physical shoe showing the world where you stand for African wildlife! This is where you come in. You can vote for your favourite design directly, and at the end of the phase, the two designs with the most votes will be made into a physical shoe that you can own yourself!!!

Up-vote

In this phase, we will release the eNFTs for the Maestro's and Le Mondeur voted layouts and chosen submissions for the featured categories.

eNFT Drop

In this phase, the eNFTs are now available for purchase. The Maestro and Le Mondeur final design will link to a physical shoe that you can own through its purchase. You can also show your support for the featured submissions by purchasing them.

The eNFT provides a transparent way for you to receive products while also providing a clear picture of where your funding is directly going.

eNFT Purchase

Le Mondeur will begin manufacturing exclusive small-batch editions of the two final layouts in line with ethical slow fashion. Please be aware that manufacturing will depend on the complexity of the upvoted shoes, and Le Mondeur cannot give an exact completion date, but it will take place in 2024.

During this phase, Le Mondeur will fulfil the shipping of both shoes to all applicable users who purchased the eNFTS. Please note that this will depend on the previous manufacturing phase status, and these dates may not be final, but will take place in 2024.
